Dalada Perehara
Discover the beauty and wonder of Sri Lanka
About Dalada Perehara
The Dalada Perahera (Temple of the Tooth Festival) in Kandy is Sri Lanka’s most spectacular cultural and religious celebration—a vibrant, centuries-old procession honoring the sacred Buddha tooth relic. Held annually in July or August, the festival lights up the streets with golden elephants, traditional drummers, dancers, fire performers, and beautifully adorned devotees, blending devotion, pageantry, and art. The procession moves through Kandy at night, with flickering lamps reflecting off Kandy Lake, creating an unforgettable, almost magical atmosphere. It’s more than a festival—it’s a living tradition, showcasing Sri Lanka’s rich heritage, faith, and cultural pride in a dazzling display of color, music, and spirituality. 🐘🥁✨🕉️
