About Ceylon Tea
Ceylon Tea is not just a beverage—it’s Sri Lanka in a cup. Grown in the highlands of Nuwara Eliya, Kandy, and Uva, each region produces tea with a distinct flavor profile: Nuwara Eliya – Light, floral, and aromatic; often called the “champagne of teas.” Uva – Strong, full-bodied, slightly spicy, and perfect for afternoon teas. Dimbula – Balanced and fragrant, ideal for morning teas. The tea industry is deeply woven into Sri Lanka’s culture, history, and economy. Introduced by the British in the 19th century, it replaced the coffee plantations and soon made the island one of the largest tea exporters in the world. Visitors to the tea country can tour tea estates and factories, seeing the entire process from plucking the bright green leaves to withering, rolling, fermenting, drying, and finally tasting the tea. Many estates also offer tea-tasting sessions, where you can savor the subtle differences between regional teas and learn to identify aroma, strength, and color.
